01 · A plan for your companion

A small pet taxi for twelve different companions

A rabbit is not a rodent, and a ferret does not travel in the same way as a canary. Our small pet transport service starts with your animal and carrier, rather than size alone. Here are twelve companions whose journeys we can help arrange:

  • Rabbit
  • Guinea pig
  • Hamster
  • Gerbil
  • Pet rat
  • Pet mouse
  • Chinchilla
  • Degu
  • Ferret
  • Budgie
  • Canary
  • Parrot

For another species or several species travelling together, contact us before booking to confirm arrangements. Heading to an appointment in Maisons-Alfort? Our Val-de-Marne pet taxi page can help you plan a local pickup.

A connection to check

Before arranging your transfer, check that the airline or rail operator accepts your species and carrier.

02 · Find the right space

Which vehicle for my small pet and carrier?

The species, carrier type and belongings matter alongside passenger numbers. The selector offers a starting point; we then confirm the arrangement using your carrier dimensions and animal count.

Count the carriers, then plan everyone’s space.

A starting point for your journey

Comfort may suit you

You are travelling with your small pet and a load to be confirmed. Comfort accommodates up to 3 passengers; carrier dimensions and luggage details help us check the arrangement.

A carrier suited to the species

A closed, ventilated carrier suited to your small mammal’s size. Check openings, sturdiness and a non-slip base; a soft bag is not automatically accepted.

Please confirm before booking

This guide counts carriers, not animals. Provide the exact animal count and each carrier’s external dimensions, alongside passengers and luggage. For companions living together, ask your vet how to arrange the journey.

Three occasions to plan your small pet’s transport

The small pet vet: planning the visit and the journey home

Before booking a small pet taxi, check that the clinic treats your species: a rabbit, ferret and parrot may need different appointments. Tell us the appointment time, entrance to use and clinic phone number. If your pet seems unwell or their condition changes, call the vet first for advice on what to do and whether and how they should travel.

For small pet transport to the clinic, prepare a closed carrier and useful records: any health booklet, previous reports and current prescriptions. Keep these in an accessible bag with the responsible person’s contact details. Check the clinic’s arrival procedure so you can go directly to the right reception without opening the carrier in a busy waiting area.

Allow flexibility for the return pet taxi journey: examinations and discharge times can vary. Ask the veterinary team for feeding, care and fitness-to-travel instructions, and do not change them yourself. Tell us whether you will accompany your companion or whether an unaccompanied handover needs arranging with the clinic. The driver provides transport; veterinary care remains the vet’s responsibility.

Tip: Confirm the discharge time with the clinic before arranging the return pickup, especially after an examination or procedure.

A weekend with a friend: having a space ready on arrival

A small pet taxi can help you reach a friend or relative who will care for your companion while you are away. First, check that they understand your pet’s habits and can provide suitable accommodation. Prepare the holiday enclosure separately from the travel carrier: have it ready before arrival in a quiet room, away from draughts and excessive heat, with access protected from other household pets.

For rabbit, chinchilla or degu transport, describe the actual load: a closed carrier, the dismantled enclosure if needed, food supplies and passengers’ luggage. Even a small animal can come with bulky belongings. Provide the carriers’ external dimensions and identify items that cannot fold down, so we can consider Comfort or Van before departure rather than discover a space problem at pickup.

This small pet transfer also needs planning with the person receiving your companion. Write a short care sheet covering usual food, daily routine, the vet’s number and your contact while away. Do not put different species in one carrier. For animals already living together, ask your vet which travel arrangement suits them. Hand over the closed carrier, then settle your pets indoors in a secure room.

Tip: Send your host a picture of the usual enclosure and a packing list beforehand, so they can prepare the space and spot anything missing.

A bird show: planning the carrier, timetable and equipment

For a trip to a show by small pet taxi, ask the organiser which species are admitted, which documents are required and when exhibitors can arrive. The service entrance may be far from the public entrance. Give us the correct drop-off point and an on-site contact. Tell us whether you are bringing a budgie, canary or parrot: carrier size and layout affect the journey arrangements.

Bird transport calls for a closed, ventilated travel carrier suited to the bird, with secure fastenings and a stable perch where appropriate. Remove hanging toys and swings that could move during the drive. Agree how the carrier will be positioned and secured with the driver; your bird stays inside during the journey. Keep water and a suitable container available for agreed stops. VCA’s advice on travelling with a pet bird

Your pet bird taxi also needs space for the day’s equipment. Mention additional empty cages, a display stand, bags and accompanying passengers. A Van may be worth considering for a bulky load. For the return, agree on a meeting point that remains accessible after the show, allowing for exhibitor departures and the time needed to pack your belongings.

Tip: Include the exhibitors’ entrance and latest arrival time in your enquiry: the venue’s general address may not be enough to plan the drop-off.

A vehicle prepared for your small companion

Our small pet taxi vehicles are disinfected and equipped with protective blankets. Fresh water is available on board: bring a suitable drinking container and agree how stops will work. Carrier openings remain clear for ventilation. Mention particular needs before departure. The fixed fare covers the agreed addresses, vehicle and services; specify waiting time, stops or a return journey when you enquire.

03 · From one address to the next

A small pet taxi for a longer journey

Travelling to Paris from Rouen, Orléans or Tours with a small companion means planning the arrival as well as the drive. Tell us when both addresses are accessible and who will receive you. If you are moving home, have the enclosure ready at the new address: a travel carrier is for the journey, not a replacement for the pet’s living space.

For long-distance small pet transport, keep familiar supplies and your vet’s instructions accessible. Plan breaks and feeding needs around the species. Do not open the carrier at a roadside rest area or leave your companion alone in a parked vehicle. If the carrier must be opened, arrange a secure, enclosed location in advance.

05 · Before you go

Your small pet taxi questions

Answers to help you plan carriers, accompanying passengers and journey details.

Which animals can travel in a small pet taxi?

We plan journeys for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, pet rats and mice, chinchillas, degus, ferrets, budgies, canaries and parrots. Provide the species, number of animals and carrier dimensions so we can confirm the journey. For another species, contact us with these details before booking.

Can I travel with my rabbit, ferret or bird?

Yes. Comfort accommodates up to 3 accompanying passengers and the Van up to 7, depending on the configuration. We check the space needed by closed carriers and luggage together. These seating limits do not guarantee every combination of passengers and load.

Which carrier should I prepare for a small pet?

Choose a closed, ventilated, escape-resistant travel carrier suitable for the species. Check fastenings, the base and openings with a professional if unsure. A soft cat bag is not automatically suitable for a rodent, ferret or bird. Send a photo and external dimensions so we can plan its place in the vehicle.

Can several small pets travel in the same vehicle?

This depends on the species, carriers, passengers and luggage. Do not put different species in one carrier. For companions already living together, ask your vet how to arrange their journey. We check each load individually: there is no single capacity that applies to all small pets.

Can my small pet travel without me?

Unaccompanied transport can be arranged after confirming the species, carrier and journey. The Pet taxi category covers this service. Arrange for someone to be available at each end, with their contact details and clear handover instructions. Travel to a clinic does not replace veterinary treatment.

How should I prepare a long journey or connection?

Provide the addresses, times, carrier dimensions and your pet’s particular needs. Agree stops before departure, without opening the carrier unexpectedly at a roadside rest area. For a flight or train, check with the operator that your species is accepted and confirm its transport conditions: a taxi journey does not grant permission to board.
